In Mitchell, South Dakota there is a structure known as The Corn Palace. It’s actually a working venue for high school basketball games, dances and other events. On the outside, for every year since 1892, a themed set of murals made from corn cobs is displayed on the outside of the building. The theme for 2015 (South Dakota’s 125th birthday) is now under construction.
We headed east towards Sioux Falls and checked out Falls Park. I communed with a few geese and ducks.
We said farewell to South Dakota and had our first stop off in Minnesota at a place called Pipestone. Lange’s Cafe provided the setting for lunch. We may have had a close encounter with a piece of Sour Cream Raisin Pie.
We’re staying tonight in Rochester, a University town and home of the Mayo Clinic.
